Recruitment

Tenancy
Blackfriars Chambers is a growing set and welcomes applications for tenancy from able practitioners at all levels of call.
We are actively seeking junior tenants, including those who have recently completed a pupillage or about to do so, to cope with an increasing quantity of criminal work. Applications from established practitioners from any of our areas of expertise are always welcome, as are group applications. We would particularly welcome applications from those already on the CPS London list.

Formal applications should be addressed to Donna Parham , marked "TENANCY", and should include a C. V. and the names of two suitable referees. The Senior Clerk, Donna Parham can always be contacted for an informal chat, prior to any informal application being submitted.

Applications for third six pupilages are invited, please apply by way of CV and cover letter to Donna Parham.
Pupillage
What we look for
While there are no formal minimum degree requirements, successful pupillage candidates will typically have an upper second class degree or higher, be able to demonstrate intellectual rigour and curiosity, articulate complex arguments clearly and succinctly, possess a sound temperament and have an ability to get on with people from diverse backgrounds.

Application and funding
We are a member of OLPAS and recruit in the summer season. While the number of pupils taken on varies from year to year, we usually take on one to two first six pupils a year. First six pupils are always taken on with a view to offering a second six (and, subsequently, a tenancy). The pupillage award is £20,703. First six pupils will be paid an award of £1726 per calendar month in six monthly installments. Second six pupils are guaranteed earnings of at least £1726 per calendar month.

Structure of pupillage
Pupils will be allocated a single pupil supervisor during any six month period of pupillage, but will be expected and encouraged to work for, and accompany to court, all members of chambers.
