Fees

Chambers is LSC Quality Mark approved for both criminal and civil work. All members of Chambers regularly undertake publicly funded work.
For private work, fees can be charged at an hourly rate, or in a single lump sum, the rate depending on the seniority of the barrister and the nature and complexity of the case.

Throughout a case there maybe additional costs and disbursements that were not foreseen when the fee was initially agreed. Examples of additional fees maybe unexpected adjournments, hearing lasting longer than anticipated, additional travel expenses incurred due to the case being transferred to an alternative court. The minimum fee for a adjourned hearing would be £250.00 plus vat.

Clients may wish to telephone Chambers clerks to discuss suitable Counsel, Counsel’s availability and the estimated fees for a case, before sending formal instructions to Chambers.
On doing so the clerks will be able to discuss these matters and answer any other questions you may have prior to instructing Counsel in a particular case. Thereafter, on receipt of formal instructions to act, a client care letter acknowledging receipt of those instructions as well as setting out details of any agreed time scales, terms of work and any fees which have either been agreed or estimated will be stated . Counsel overrunning on present cases, cases subject to date change, court closures and non-availability of Counsel, can all have an impact the original time scale of case. The client will be updated at all times, in respect of same
All Counsels fees will be subject to the present vat rate where applicable. There are some areas of law that are VAT exempt, as there are also Counsel of whom practice but are not VAT registered. Counsel’s fees can be subject to negotiation, this is dependent on timescale of case, history of case, and relationship with those instructing.
